Sunday, October 11

Arrive by 11am to check-in with TGC and warm-up for today’s round on Saucon Valley’s OLD COURSE, site of the 2022 U.S. Senior Open Championship.

  • The Old Course is a charming, elegantly simple layout designed by British architect Herbert Strong. Strong hailed from Royal St. George’s, a course noted for its natural beauty; thus, it is no surprise that his designs involved little or no disruption to the land. Among Strong’s best-known works are Canterbury Golf Club near Cleveland, Ohio, Engineers Club in Roslyn, New York, and the Ponte Vedre Club in Florida, home to one of golf’s first “island” greens. The course has undergone minor renovations by William Gordon and then by Perry Maxwell and most recently by Tom Marzolf of the Fazio Group.

  • The USGA has chosen the Old Course for six of its national championships: the 1951 U.S. Amateur, the 1983 U.S. Junior Amateur, the 1987 U.S. Senior Amateur, two U.S. Senior Opens (1992 and 2000) and the 2009 U.S. Women’s Open. Always in superb condition, the Old Course is the favorite of the membership.

  • For those interested in some friendly competition, we’ll be staging a 2-day tournament - the 1st Annual TGC Travel Club Championship. This competition will feature separate pairings and competition for men and women. The format for all players will be individual stroke play using Net Stableford Scoring (100% handicap). In this format, each player’s hole-by-hole score will earn different point totals for a net bogey, par, birdie or eagle. Once a player reaches net double bogey they can pick-up their ball, with no effect on their tournament score.  Additionally, closest to the hole contests will be in place for men and women. (Tournament prizes are included in your event package.)

  • Players not interested in competing are welcome to play at leisure.

12 PM - We’ll have up to (6) consecutive tee times reserved for the group. (Greens fee, caddie or cart fee and halfway house refreshments included in your package)

Following the round, guests spending the night at the Weyhill Guest House will proceed to check-in and change for dinner. Guests on the day package can use the locker room facilities in the clubhouse to freshen up and change.

7-9 AM - Country breakfast at the Weyhill Guest House will be served for those guests on the overnight package. (Included in package)

After breakfast, make the short drive back to the club to warm-up for our second round on Saucon Valley’s highly regarded GRACE COURSE.

  • Soon after World War II it was decided that one 18-hole golf course was not sufficient for Saucon Valley's growing membership. Golf course architect William Gordon, who had worked with Toomey and Flynn (Shinnecock Hills) and constructed courses for Donald Ross (Seminole), Willie Park, Jr. (Maidstone) and Devereux Emmet (Garden City Golf Club), was chosen to create the additional course. The course was named for Eugene Gifford Grace, the man who founded the club and for more than four decades exerted a very strong influence on making Saucon Valley Country Club what it is today.

  • The Grace Course is one of only 44 golf courses in the country to have been named to Golf Digest’s prestigious “Top 100 Golf Courses” every year since the inception of the rankings in 1966 until the late 1990s. Considering the great many outstanding courses that have been built in the past decade, this is no small feat. The Grace Course, long and demanding, is set among 150 acres that challenge the golfer to use every club in the bag. It is quite unlike the Old Course in both design and topography. The Grace Course surrounds the Old Course and does not return to the clubhouse at the ninth hole. It does stop at the quaint Villa Pazzetti, the Club’s beautiful “halfway” house.

  • Players not interested in competing in the 2-day tournament are welcome to play at leisure again today.

Following the round, we’ll gather on the Lime Kiln Terrace, overlooking the club’s magnificent outdoor pool and 18th greens of both courses. Boxed lunches, beer, wine and non-alcoholic drinks will be served as we tally final scores and toast our men’s and women’s club champions. (Post round lunch is included in your package.)

Guests will depart the club following lunch and awards.
